TV Special spotlights Birding in Sarapiquí
Recently, host James Currie of Birding Adventures TV
filmed a special show right here in the Sarapiquí region. A third of the program was devoted to the
Great Green Macaw, and our efforts to preserve the Almendro tree
which is so important to the bird's survival. You can see some lovely shots of the Macaw on the show,
as well as Alex talking about conservation efforts in the area. Scanning the entire height of the
Almendro tree is a great way to get an idea of its size and majesty.
We were very pleased to have our area highlighted in this show and to receive some recognition
for all our efforts here. Andrea at the
Selva
Verde Lodge passed on some comments from the show's
producers: "Thank you Alex for sharing your passion on camera and for helping James and Jeff get to
active nests nearby in Arbolito. James was extremely complimentary of Alex & Aaron's assistance."
The episode was centered around the Lodge, which is only minutes from here, and also includes
footage of special locations that we visit regularly. It's a great way to be introduced to a number of
local bird species, as well as some of the tiny and highly colorful frogs. The show aired on the US-based
FOX Sports Channel on March 10, 18 and 19.
If you missed it, it will air again on March 25, 2010 in a number of cities. Or, you can
watch
it online right here. The half-hour segment is about 22 minutes long without commercials. If that link
doesn't work, try these YouTube links for Part 1,
Part 2, and
Part 3 with Alex & the Macaws.
(Each part is about 7 minutes long.)
