Hi Alex: I just want to say thank you again for making our stay so enjoyable. I absolutely loved staying at your place! We all loved staying in your cabins. I'm beginning to miss your homemade breakfasts! It was unfortunate we got rained out of our activities. I will not forget I made you a deal that I will return to help you on your latest cabin. I'm already planning for the next trip. I'm starting to drop a hint with my friends and family so I won't be coming alone. I had such a wonderful time touring Costa Rica; We certainly created some good memories on this journey. This was my first international travel experience and I can say I wouldn't have it any other way! It was fantastic. Thanks! Matt T., USA

Alex: Pat and I thank you for a wonderful experience. You and Kevin are first class birding guides. The number of different birds we saw during the 5 days we were with you totaled over 89, which is amazing especially for August. We will recommend you without hesitation to anyone coming to Costa Rica. Thank you for the warm hospitality extended by your family during our stay at Posada Andrea Cristina. We enjoyed our clean, cozy room. We wish you much success with your new wildlife rescue project and hope to return to see you in the future. Pat & Tony M., Florida, USA

Alex: Just wanted to thank you for all you did to make our visit to your beautiful country so great. We had a fantastic time. It was a real adventure. You knew all the perfect places to stay and eat. We always felt safe and were constantly anticipating the next new discovery. It was great being with someone who shared our interests and was as excited to be in the field as we were. Most of all it was great to become your friend. I hope we can stay in touch and I hope to bring my wife down to meet you and your wonderful family as soon as I can.
I ended up with 95 bird species. I got the Cinnamon Hummingbird and a Yellow Warbler at the last hotel. It was a blast birding with you. All together, I saw about 130 species, most new to me. Not bad considering all the other things we did like rafting and the zip line! Please keep in touch and let me know how you, your family, and the macaws are doing. Jerry G., Wisconsin, USA

Local flora Alex and family: We enjoyed our stay so much it is difficult to describe. You all made us feel like we were family! In a way, we are! We are very much looking forward to the days when we will travel together in your beautiful country, and we wish you all the best with your work. We wish you harmony and pleasure through the rest of your lives and hope we can meet again. Martie & Artie N., Rosmalen, Holland

Alex, this is the second time you've sheltered me here in Costa Rica. The first time when I was barely here a week, and now, six months later when I only have a couple of weeks left. I love this place! Beautiful grounds, beautiful place to wake up in. Take care and I will visit whenever I am in the country. Thank you for the conversation and your encouragement for my projects. Anne Marie G., Newfoundland, Canada

A paradise! Thank you for your generosity, wonderful stories, great breakfasts, great birding, and great company. A beautiful place! Lori F., Washington, USA

Birding lesson on the road This was a very special place to spend a couple of days of our honeymoon. Thank you, Alexander and Flory. We enjoyed hanging out with you guys. Excellent hospitality! You may see some friends of ours in the future. We loved the flexible breakfast schedule too!! Jim & Meredith H., California, USA

The Costa Rica Handbook says: "Simple, yet appealing, ... There's a restaurant with a patio in the garden, which attracts sloths and kinkajous. It's run by friendly owners, Alexander and Floribel Martinez, who arrange nature and birding tours, plus tours to Nicaragua. A reader raves about the complimentary breakfast and coffee."

Attention: Costa Rica Handbook
Andrea Christina Bed & Breakfast - page 443. This is a great place to stay, but we really wanted to stress the extra value that owner Alexander Martinez can provide. First of all, upon request, the Martinez' will cook dinner for guests. And we can attest that the home-cooked organic vegetarian dinner we had at Andrea Christina was the best meal we had in Costa Rica in our entire 5 months. Worth visiting for this alone. Second, Alexander is a great host, and the best tour guide we met in Costa Rica. We spent four weeks with him in total, and we can't say enough good about him. He was very friendly, highly knowledgeable, and great with the kids. As a leading member of environmental groups, part-time ranger, and part-time lecturer, he had a wealth of knowledge about the flora, fauna and culture of Costa Rica. An avid birder, he hooked our 9-year-old on bird-watching, a passion that he has carried back to Canada. (Our youngest plans to return to Costa Rica "in ten years" to visit with his new friend Alexander.) Alexander speaks English fluently, knows all the best inexpensive places to eat, and is the safest driver we know of in Costa Rica. Anyone who wants a special experience in Costa Rica should contact him. We're sure we've left out half of what we wanted to say. A real gem! Our new guide, Kevin Martinez, out in the field.

Dear Alex,
We had a great time in Costa Rica, we love it there!
Thanks so much introducing us to your part of the country. We felt we had a truly Costa Rican experience there and it was nice to be surrounded by Ticos instead of tourists. Your complimentary breakfasts were excellent and memorable. Next time maybe we will see a macaw or a toucan but it was great to see the sloths, crocodiles, and monkeys...  Very impressed with your environmental activism - keep up the good work. The corridor idea seems to be an important one all over Central America...  You have a lovely family. Your son is a great kid, it was fun to meet him. You are welcome here any time if you ever visit Northern California...  Gracias, amigo!
